Coppola Not Impressed With Godfather Game
According to reports, Francis Ford Coppola, director of The Godfather trilogy, is less than impressed that his masterworks are to be transformed into games.
South Africa’s Mail & Guardian website has disclosed that Coppola is concerned that the game is not true to the films, turning them from gritty, cerebral dramas, into self-confessed GTA clones.
However, Coppola seems to be in a small club of those involved in the films who do not support the game. Marlon Brando famously recorded voice-overs for his character before his death, as had James Caan. However, Al Pacino declined the chance to be immortalised in pixels.
“I knew nothing about it,” said Coppola. “They never asked me if I thought it was a good idea. I went and I took a look at what it was … What they do is they use the characters everyone knows and they hire those actors to be there and only to introduce very minor characters. And then for the next hour they shoot and kill each other.”
Sounds good to us.
