Memorex Improves USB Drive Range
Memorex continues to deliver high capacity portable storage with its Mega TravelDrive, now with 6GB and 8GB of capacity. Smaller than a two-inch square, the Mega TravelDrive is the smallest portable USB hard drive available, offering consumers the most bang for their portable storage buck. In addition, Memorex has announced a USB flash drive with a built-in, customizable LCD screen, the Memorex TravelDrive ID.
At just 1.75″ x 1.96″ x .56″, the Mega TravelDrive is 20 percent smaller than today’s pocket hard drives. The Mega features a pivoting USB connector that easily plugs into your computer’s USB port on planes, trains or anywhere space is tight, without requiring an extra power supply. Using the 8GB Mega TravelDrive, consumers can store more than 16,000 digital photos; 2,400 songs in MP3 format; or more than a hundred thousand text files. The 6GB Mega features a stylish metallic charcoal finish, while the 8GB Mega model is sleek in metallic black. Announced last month, its 4GB capacity brother comes in platinum. Each Mega also features a blue LED indicator that flashes during data transfer and comes bundled with convenience accessories such as a protective, black carrying pouch and a USB cable.
“Memorex’s 6GB and 8GB Mega TravelDrives are the latest in an ever expanding series of products designed for today’s mobile consumers and their content-rich world,” said Allen H. Gharapetian, vice president of marketing and product development for Memorex. “The Mega TravelDrive line offers consumers the most storage, at the best price, compared to similarly sized portable storage devices.”
The added capacity of the Mega TravelDrive makes it ideal for frequent travelers, students, photographers and graphic artists who regularly create large files and share them on the go. The Mega conforms to USB 2.0 standards and is cross-platform compatible for use with both Mac and PC. Users can simply connect the Mega TravelDrive to any computer’s USB port and immediately store and access files.
Memorex Mega TravelDrives with 6GB and 8GB of capacity are shipping to major consumer electronics retailers this month. The 6GB Mega TravelDrive retails for $149.99, while the 8GB Mega TravelDrive retails for $199.99. The 4GB Mega TravelDrive retails for $119.99.
Memorex has also announced the innovative TravelDrive ID that takes the guesswork out of remembering what is stored on the drive and how much free space is still available. The first USB flash drive with a built-in, customizable LCD screen, the Memorex TravelDrive ID also features an ergonomic design, metallic color scheme, and blue LED indicator like other
TravelDrive products.
According to a recent study conducted by Strata Research, more than half of USB flash drive owners are interested in owning multiple USB flash drives.
They want the flexibility of having one at home and one at the office, or they like to store digital photos on one drive and work files on another, for example. TravelDrive ID helps consumers keep multiple USB flash drives organized with an innovative LCD screen that lets them display a descriptive name for the drive or its contents. The LCD also shows how much storage capacity remains available on the drive.
“Whereas floppy disks, CDs, DVDs and other removable storage media have
always been easy to label, flash drives have presented a challenge, until now. The TravelDrive ID provides a clean and simple way to label a flash drive, eliminating the need to plug in the drive just to get an idea of what’s on it,” said Allen H. Gharapetian, vice president of marketing and product development for Memorex. “Memorex will continue to deliver cutting edge USB flash drives that allow consumers to easily save and share important data, digital photos, MP3 files and video wherever they go.”
The advanced Surface Stabilized Cholesterin (SSC) LCD displays up to 13 characters to help the user designate a name to the drive, add a date, or identify the contents stored on it. And with the SSC LCD, the user can identify what is on the drive even when it is not plugged into a computer’s USB port. TravelDrive ID conforms to the USB 2.0 standard and offers consumers 512MB, 1GB and 2GB of portable storage, whether they use a Mac or PC. TravelDrive ID also features Memorex’s signature ergonomic design cues, including an easy-grip area at the end of the drive, a contoured cap that fits on the back of the drive to avoid loss, and a cool blue wrap-around LED indicator.
The Memorex TravelDrive ID will be available next month, just in time for the holidays, for a suggested retail price of $79.99 for 512MB of capacity, $119.99 for 1GB of capacity, and $199.99 for 2GB of capacity.
